Have an engagement ring and or wedding rings that you have no idea what to do with aside throwing them in the river?!
As of 2025, the divorce rate hovers around the 40 – 50%, however, this number has been declining over the past few decades.
The amount of baggage or strong memories sometimes plague those rings if left on a sour note. That’s a lot of tending left unattended. Never fear, I have some fantastic ideas to help ail those harbored feelings.
- Throw it down a hillside?! Nooooo! Haha, that’s like throwing free money down the tubes. I know you’ve seen it in movies, but try and restrain yourself from doing that. Won’t do you any good in the long term, especially for you.
- Re-design your design. Oh yes, we love custom designs. Allows you to do pretty much what you want to a degree. Instead of white gold, go two tone or yellow. Round stone can be re-set with accompanying blue sapphires. Your then wedding ring can now be your go to bangle design or pair of matching diamond studs. The list literally is endless.
- Re-sell it. Thats right, re-sell it and make some money off it for a shopping adventure, savings or a vacation you always wanted to go on. With so many social media outlets, should be easy to sell for the right price. Out of sight, out of mind.
- Pawnshop. Don’t wanna worry about all the details? Pawning it won’t get you back what you’re expecting. But you don’t have to worry about anything, just drop off and let them do the leg work.
- Sell for scrap. Just that, go into an establishment that buys for scrap. You’ll get some coin out of it, but compare prices and trust that establishment. Metal prices are through the roof at the moment.
- Consign it. Take into a jewelry store and see if they are willing to place in their showcase to help sell it for you. This can be a great way to work towards something they might have that screams, “buy me”!
The re-design approach seems to be the best in terms of really taking advantage of these beautiful rings just lying around. You want those pave diamonds to gravitate around your center stone in a different tone of metal? You want to convert you wedding ring and engagement ring to matching or non-matching pendant/earrings? Or maybe you want to extract that center stone and pass down to your daughter while taking the rest and melt it down to start a new design all together? Done, done and done!
At the end of the day, the engagement ring/wedding bands don’t have to carry a stigma of bad decisions or regrets. It can be a fresh start to something you’ve always dreamt about or something that be passed down to someone who doesn’t have much to start with. I’ve re-designed many rings, helped sell them or jazzed them up for next wearers.
Make it yours and yours alone.
